Summer is Almost Here
18th June 2015
When I was a child I used to think a day lasted forever, a month lasted a lifetime and a year lasted an eternity. Now, I blink and half the year has passed! Finally though, dare I say it, the summer is almost here! There are numerous benefits of working a morning radio show, especially one that’s broadcast from a beautiful beachside town. I feel it’s almost time to hit the beach and get the surf and body boards back out again for another season. I’m a massive fan of water sports so really looking forward to spending any afternoons and free time I have out on the waves again. It just makes it even better that, for the time being, it’s right on my own doorstep!
Speaking of sports, as a sports fan, there’s been so much going on lately, with so much more to come! How exciting was it watching Sir Bradley Wiggins completely smash the ‘One Hour Record’ at Lee Valley VeloPark? That is one of the sports most simple, yet brutal contests and he flew through it. Not only the physical but the mental ability of that man is quite remarkable and something I find truly inspiring. Over on the diving circuit, the World Series has been making its way through various pools in countries such as Russia, Dubai and London, at our very own Olympic Park. Thanks to Tom Daley, Jack Laugher and Chris Mears, it’s so great to see how this sport is emerging and finally getting the recognition that it deserves. The amount of medals Team GB have clocked up between them is proof that they are a team to be reckoned with and with Rio 2016 in the not too distant future, I feel they are just on the brink of achieving great things! I would say that diving is ‘one to watch’ next year.
Then there’s always the football. Even though the season has now drawn to a close, I was fortunate enough to be able to go to the Champions League Final in Berlin last week, making it my third consecutive final. What an atmosphere. What a game. And congratulations Barcelona, they were very much the worthy winners on the night! Add to this the Ladies World Cup out in Canada currently going on, Wimbledon in just two short weeks, the Ashes on home turf starting next month and the promise of the Rugby World Cup come September… it’s almost all too much to handle!
